The Korea Times reported on the International Forum on One Korea held on September 27, 2024 in Seoul, Korea. In response to the North Korean government’s move away from Korean reunification, national and international experts called to continue to push for reunification while placing human rights at the center of North Korean policy.

On October 2, 2023, the International Forum on One Korea took place in Seoul, South Korea, followed by the Korea United Festa at Yeouido Park on October 3, marking Korea’s Foundation Day. This pivotal event brought together global leaders, scholars, and advocates to discuss the vision of a unified Korea and the aspirations driving the Korean Dream. Keynote speaker Dr. Hyun Jin P. Moon discussed the Korean Dream, a vision rooted in 5,000 years of Korean history, and emphasized the critical moment for Korean reunification based on the ideal of Hongik Ingan, meaning a country that will benefit all humankind.

A year before Japanese annexation in 1909, “Ketcheonil,” was established to celebrate the founding of the Korean nation nearly 5,000 years ago. Today, it is celebrated in both North and South Korea. As part of commemorations of Foundation Day in 2023, Action for Korea United (AKU) led by the Global Peace Foundation hosted an International Forum on One Korea on October 2, 2023 in Seoul, Korea. This was followed by a Korea United Festival at Yeouido Park in Seoul, Korea.
